Cant wait to see the movie!!!! but i noticed one thing wrong with the pictures. the picture of the key, its supposed to look more like a + sign instead of a real cross.
 | | | A DEVOUT CATHOLIC April 11, 2006 06:40 AM PDT
this is all a load of rubbish by the by! the Cilice, that is used in the top picture is not even like that no blood is drawn from its use and there are no such thing as monks in opus dei i think you silly people should all go to www.opusdei.org and go to FAQ and research from there that could be the way to christ!
 | | | ladygroove April 11, 2006 09:27 AM PDT
To the devout catholic, I think you need a shrink if you think torturing yourself will bring to closer to GOD. As for the movie I can't wait to see it.

To A DEVOUT CATHOLIC:
FYI, I came from an Opus Dei school (well, not actually Opus Dei, but the school teaches the works of Josemaria Escriva). I just ignored the portrayal of Opus Dei in DVC...it doesnt matter. I already know the truth...

It's a book (a very good one) get over it the real mystery was that soipe's brother was still alive. and was not kill in a car accident like she was told
 | | | Dan Brown April 25, 2006 10:57 AM PDT
Actually there is much more to it. Unfortunatley you are ignorant and that is all you have understood from reading my book. You have missed the real meaning and the truths that are explained. And thank you Gregg for ruining the novel for those have not had the chance to experience it.
 | | | mimi April 29, 2006 11:29 PM PDT

Greg,
I think that perhaps it would have been better to put spoilers so that people who are reading the book (such as me) wouldnt see that! it doesnt matter though, I am still reading it.
 | | | dvcfan May 11, 2006 02:27 AM PDT
I have a question in reference to this cilice thing as they state in the book. Can someone please tell me what is the purpose of this? and only monks were required to wear it? even if it is BS in the opus dei, in general what is the history of this spiked cilice? I am very curious.
 | | | atiya May 14, 2006 03:43 AM PDT

I finally decided to buy the book to read it - and the week after the movie's out, I'm in a theatrewatching it. Good to see some pics :D (it's funny how in the book i'm precisely at the point where Sophie wants to go check out the Joconde). Thanks a lot !!

The book was great and I enjoyed it immensely, cant wait to see the movie. they made a good choice for the actor who plays Aringarosa, and the one that plays Silas.
I'm a very devout Catholic, but I just dont trust the Opus Dei, I looked past what they were portrayed as in the book, and did some of my own research. It's important never to join an organisation if you dont know where your money is going. Faith is a very good thing but you have to learn to use your head.
Great pics though, I'm really looking forward to the movie. Cant wait!!!!

I've been phsyched about this movie for months now! I am a Christian..well i dunno if i can say that becasue i don't agree with everything. I don't think anyone agrees with everything their religion says....so im more of a self thinker. Most christian people in my communitty are saying "DON"T SEE THE MOVIE" i totally disagree. They are just mindless idiots who can't think out the box..and i'd like to see what other peoeple think and stufff. I CAN"T WATI FOR THE MOVIE...it comes out the 19th here...so i have longer to wait...omg..but its almost here
 | | | dvcfan May 18, 2006 09:21 PM PDT
I am very psyched to see the movie. I only have a little over a hundred pages to read in the book now, and by golly I am planning on finishing it before Saturday!!!! its good.

 | | | Ashlea May 24, 2006 10:36 AM PDT
I just wanted to express my opinion about all the idiots trying to fight for a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie saying that it's fiction. I think that we just need to buy a dictionary and learn the definition of "novel." It means a work of FICTION! and if you're taken in by this book without doing any research of your own and formulating your own ideas, you didn't really have much of a Faith to begin with. It should not shake your belief in God nor should it make you question the Goodness of Jesus. Has anyone else noticed that most of the people saying that the movie and book are crap are people vowing NEVER to see/read it? How can you honestly condemn something if you have no idea what's behind the cover? Just a thought. Awesome book!
 | | | Fang May 30, 2006 12:55 AM PDT
Both the book and the movie is *great*!Probably one of the best I've seen so far..I love Silas's character<3,he looks hot for a murderous albino monk...*_*.Ian Mckellen did a great job as a baddie too!

alright...the book is awesome!..I finished reading it in two days after seeing the movie and doing a little background research myself!--its really a work of wonder, nicely organized thriller! Thumps up for Dan Brown!--HOWEVER...its a fiction people! give it a break! All these accusations of Christ and Mary Magdalene having a relationship...well, I personally do not care if there was such a thing (would not affect my faith in God one bit!)...but, com'on! its an insult to the Divine Christ and His faithful follower. If someone accuses your honest friendship with the opposite sex as an affair, it would be really frustrating! You would never like it if there was a false rumour spreading about...and here we are, discriminting the pure relationship Jesus had with His deciplies (which inlcudes Mary Magdalene). Its down-right WRONG! Why are u even questioning the Divinity of Christ? Did u not seen 'Passion of the Christ' by Mel Gibson? Did you not walked out of the theaters in tears? Were you not deeply touched by the suffering Christ has indured for you?...then what hypocrites we are now eh!? As soon as a controversial book is sold, we all turn on Chirst in an instant--questioning His love for us! Its a shame really!...And a word to all the faithful Catholics: its called a novel! Its FICTION! No need to get excited, its merely ur excitments to ban this book that's causing so many to pursue it! Besides, so what if Christ had a loving relationship? How does that change anything? If ur faith is put on the line b'cuz of it...then my friends, ur faith wasn't strong enough to begin with! It would however change the church, but not the image of Jesus Christ!....And a word to Dan Brown if I may: Excellent story! it kept me reading till 4am one night...I am not so sure what message u were trying to come across, but I sure hope you got an explanation to the Lord when ur at the Gates of Heaven. And if you get in, sir, I sure hope u can look Mary Magdalene in the eyes and say ur sincere apologizes for placing such title on her pure relationship with Christ.
--my apologizes Mr.Brown if I had said anything rude--
thank-you
Jesus Christ = LOVE, grace, mercy...He forgives all!
--God be with you | |

No one is turning on Jesus because of this theory. If anything, good on Jesus for getting the girl; doesn't affect my faith one bit.
As for Opus Dei and all it's 'fans', I hope you're not seriously taking what the book depicts as fact. They're a bit traditional, with the sexism (which could do with changing I agree) and self flagellation but they are still a part of the Church; and there's no basis for these unfounded attacks on them. I'm indifferent about Opus Dei but I don't like misjudged accusations.
As for the self-mortification; it's apparently nowhere near as violent as the movie (also remember Silas had a LOT of penance to do). The cilice and discipline (whip) were designed not to draw blood. The cilice is worn 2 hours a day loosely, it's not this massive leather bound thing, and all it does is cause discomfort (stick a comb in your arm moderately firmly and you'll see what I mean). In fact, I'm after a cilice (the buttocks slapping discipline not so much ;) )
